NEVER introduce yourself like this

Do this instead

When you go meet people at a networking event,

how do they normally introduce themselves?

“Hey, I’m Josh. I work in fintech.”

“Nice to meet you, I’m Priya. I run a marketing agency.”

“Hi, I’m Alex. I help businesses grow through data-driven solutions.”

What do you remember of them by the time you get home?

Absolutely nothing.

Why?

Because they sound like everyone else, you have no idea what they do and who they are, or how they are relevant to you.

When you say “I’m in fintech,” people file you away under a category and move on.

If you don’t know what fintech means, you might not ask for elaboration and your brain certainly won’t remember it.

How should you introduce yourself instead?

I crafted this easy introduction formula for you:

1) What I do: The core function or result you create

2) Who I help: The specific group or type of person

3) How I help them: The method, tool, or process you use

4) Why it matters: The importance of what you do or the consequence of not doing it

Example:

I’m a CEO Speech coach which means I teach CEOs and industry-leaders how to speak with clarity and confidence. I coach them to simplify their message, tell better stories, and deliver in a way that sticks. Because if people don’t remember what you said, they won’t remember you.

TLDR:

If your intro sounds like everyone else’s, you’ll be forgotten like everyone else.

Your goal at a networking event isn’t to sound impressive.

It’s to be remembered.
