How to Set Goals in 2025

>> 1- The key to consistency: Fun.

If you have fun doing something, you're going to do it 10x longer.

Think of the kid who hates going to school, but spends hours on Duolingo everyday.

I used to 'teach' because 'teaching' was the only skill I had. But it wasn't what my audience needed to take action.

I focused heavily on humour and play in my workshops, and the results have been game-changing.

Laughter is an international language.

>> 2- Unlikely vs Impossible goals.

I spent all year researching 'first principles thinking.'

It taught me the difference between 'unlikely' goals and 'impossible' goals.

Most things worth doing have the odds stacked against you.

Just because something is unlikely to happen, doesn't mean it's impossible. But I would stop short if I thought it was unlikely.

Now, my goals are filtered through

"Is it impossible to do this under the laws of physics?
No? Okay then let's do it."

This has helped me set significantly bigger goals to pursue.
 
>> 3- Do it big and do it different.

I've had some health issues this year which taught me the importance of making the most of my time on this planet.

I've scratched many of my 'small' goals and opted for much bigger ones.

I used to look at what someone else is doing and think:

"This person's doing great! Let me research how they're doing it, and then do it."

Now, I look at goals from the lens of two questions:

a) Is it different than what's already being done?
 
If it's not different then it's not worth doing.

b) Is it big?

Does the thought of going down this path scare the crap out of me?

If it's not, then it's not big enough.

If there’s one message I can leave you with for 2024, it’s this:

Life is short,
the opportunities are big.

Make them count.
